On Friday, September 8th, the InnerCity Mission arrived Makurdi, the state capital of Benue State, Nigeria, to commence its Hope Mission to families and children affected by the recent flooding in the state.
On arrival, representatives of the InnerCity Mission visited some of the communities affected and met with residents, who narrated the sad turn of events, some recounting how they narrowly escaped being crushed in collapsed buildings as a result of the flood. Others told heart-wrenching tales of how they carried children on their backs all night till dawn to a temporary shelter.
Thankfully, the government has made temporary camps available to the victims. The InnerCity Mission has also begun distribution of relief materials, on behalf of her partners, at one of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the city. Partners of the InnerCity Mission have made it possible to, not only meet the immediate needs of the people, but show them that they are valuable.
There is still a lot to be done, as there is need for more non-perishable food supplies water, clothes, hygiene kits including bath soap, sanitary towels, toilet paper and more.
